In reference to a (much earlier) post by rsrcher Lulu forums don't seem to be much like anarchist blogs on Greek riots, and I mean, I'm not overwhelmingly surprised.
But he made some good observations and kick-offs points.
Party is a difficult word to deal with. I'm going to take it as a casual gathering, cocktail-style, but without the monkey suits and gowns. So lots of people you don't know, a handful you do, and all have plenty to talk about.
Like any scene, Lulu has frequent and dedicated users and lurkers. There seems to be a lot of questions being answered by the frequent users, and this is probably because they've been around, they know lots, and likely have encountered these difficulties as well.
This is another thing since Lulu is a creative consumer site their forums are loaded with questions on everything self-publishing and POD related. It's where users come to find answers to their questions and frustrations.
There are also some general discussion forums and even a shameless promotion folder I haven't got to yet.
Perhaps why Lulu forums were initially overwhelming is because they are spread out. Current topics are scattered throughout the various Forum folder categories and then threads inside each folder. Some threads are only have two posts, a quick question, a quick answer. Others are pages long with debates and comments that go on for forever. (These ones get a little flame symbol to show you they are hot (popular).
I'm as overwhelmed as I am determined, so expect to hear more about forums.
I really want to find out more about rsrcher's comment of the hosts putting in most of the social labour. Though, it will need some tweaking. These users are publishing, not protesting.
